About UV Clarifiers

UV clarifiers pass pond water by an ultraviolet lamp to help control green water. This collection includes the Aquascape UltraKlear UV Clarifier, the Pondmaster Submersible & Inline UV Clarifier, and Aquascape UltraKlean pressurized biological pond filters and filtration kits.

They're for backyard ponds, koi ponds and water gardens. The right unit depends on your pond volume and pump flow, so call or text 1-855-752-5795 for sizing help from our team.

Which UV unit is right for your pond?

For an all-in-one solution, the Aquascape UltraKlean Pressurized Biological Pond Filter combines mechanical and biological filtration with a high-output ultraviolet clarifier in a single pressurized unit. If you already have filtration and just need green-water control, the Aquascape UltraKlear UV Clarifier plumbs into your existing circuit. The Pondmaster Submersible & Inline UV Clarifier (10, 20, and 40 watt) installs either fully submerged or inline.

UV works on the algae you can't net out; it does not remove the nutrients feeding it. Pair a UV unit with pond filtration, the algae-control program, and a properly sized pond pump for lasting clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a UV clarifier and a UV sterilizer?
The hardware is the same — the difference is UV dose. At higher flow rates the unit acts as a clarifier, killing suspended green-water algae. Slow the flow and the longer exposure sterilizes, also affecting some bacteria and parasites. Most pond installations run in clarifier mode.

Will a UV clarifier kill string algae?
No. UV only affects single-cell algae suspended in the water passing through the unit. String algae attached to rocks and liner needs the approach in our algae-control collection.

When should I run a UV clarifier in Canada?
Green water peaks with sunlight and warmth — run the UV from spring start-up through fall. Remove and store the unit before freeze-up, and replace the bulb each season, since UV output drops well before the bulb visibly fails.

Do UV clarifiers harm fish or beneficial bacteria?
UV treats only the water passing through the sealed chamber, so fish are unaffected, and so are the bacteria colonised on your filter media and pond surfaces.

I highly recommend the Fountain Depot. Ryan and his team are incredibly knowledgeable and timely. We sought a floating fountain and underwater lights for our client, and Ryan delivered precisely what our client was desiring. The Fountain Place continues to maintain the fountain, and we have had zero issues.
