Sizing and Mounting Your Kasco De-Icer

Fountain Depot carries the full D-Series: 2400D (1/2 HP), 3400D (3/4 HP) and 4400D (1 HP) on 120V, plus the 3400HD and 4400HD - the 240V versions of the same units for longer cord runs and 240V-wired sites.

Mount a de-icer three ways: suspended from a dock or boat with the two included 20-ft ropes, fixed on a Kasco universal dock mount, or positioned on a horizontal float. Only about 1% of a pond's surface needs to stay open for gas exchange, which is why a properly placed de-icer helps prevent winter fish kill as well as ice damage to docks and boats.

Pair the unit with a Kasco C-10 thermostat or C-20 time-and-temperature control so it runs only when conditions require, and install before first ice - our guide When Should You Install a Pond De-Icer in Ontario? has regional timing for Canadian waters. De-icers ship across Canada from Markham stock; order early, as units sell out seasonally.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between D and HD models?
HD models are the 240V versions of the D-series at the same horsepower - a 3400D is 120V, a 3400HD is 240V. Choose HD when your site is wired for 240V or the cord run from the panel to the water is long; in-water performance is the same.
Is a de-icer the same as a pond heater or dock bubbler?
Yes - de-icer, pond heater, lake bubbler, and dock bubbler all describe the same job: keeping a hole open in the ice. Kasco de-icers do it by circulating warmer bottom water to the surface instead of heating with an element, which uses far less electricity than a true heater while protecting docks, boats, and fish.
When should I install the de-icer?
Install before ice formation begins - typically late October to mid-November in most of Canada. Running the de-icer before ice forms is far more effective than trying to melt existing ice. Pair with a thermostat control panel so the unit turns on automatically when water temperature drops.
Can I use my Kasco fountain or aerator motor as a de-icer?
In some cases, yes. Kasco offers a conversion kit that lets compatible motor units serve double duty. Contact us to confirm compatibility with your specific model.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship across Canada from stock. Delivery typically takes 3 to 5 business days depending on your province. Order early - de-icers sell out seasonally.
