Shop Surface Aerators by Horsepower
Size on surface acreage first, then confirm the voltage and phase available at your site. Both narrow the list faster than anything else.
The residential and small-property range. As a working rule from our own installs, plan on roughly 1 to 1.5 HP per surface acre - so these units suit water up to about an acre. All ship without a control panel.
The 8400AF steps the warranty up to three years and suits water in the one to two acre range. Single-phase 240V, supplied without a control panel.
Lagoons, retention basins and golf course water. Three-year warranty across the range. The three-phase units are the only surface aerators that arrive with a control panel already included.
Not sure how much horsepower your pond needs?
Aeration is sized on surface acreage and depth, not on how much spray you want to see. Send us your acreage, average depth and the voltage available at the site, and our techs will spec the unit before you spend a dollar.
Surface Aeration Moves Volume. It Does Not Reach the Bottom.
A surface aerator pulls water from just below the surface and throws it into the air, driving oxygen exchange across a wide area with no spray display to pay for. Per horsepower it moves considerably more water than a decorative fountain, which is why it is the default choice on lagoons, retention basins and golf course water where the unit is there to work rather than to be looked at.
What it will not do is turn over a deep water column. Surface units work the top few feet. On a pond deeper than roughly eight feet, water below that can still stratify and go anoxic through a hot Ontario August no matter how much surface agitation you add. That is the point at which bottom-diffused aeration earns its keep, and on larger water the two are often run together.
Sizing starts with surface acreage and depth. As a working rule from our own installs, plan on roughly 1 to 1.5 HP per surface acre, then confirm the voltage and phase available at the site before you choose a model - it narrows the list faster than anything else. Send us those numbers and we will do it for you.

Three-phase models include the panel
The 3.3AF and 5.3AF ship with a CA-3235 control panel. Every single-phase model ships without one - budget for it separately.
-
Warranty steps up at the 8400
The 2400, 3400 and 4400 carry a 2-year Kasco warranty. The 8400AF and every 3 HP and 5 HP model carry 3 years.
-
120V or 240V changes the model, not just the plug
3400AF is 120V, 3400HAF is 240V. Same horsepower, different unit. The H prefix is the tell.
-
Cord length is specced, not guessed
Measured from the unit to the panel. Kasco builds cords from 50 ft up; ordering short is the most common return.
-
Serviced in Canada, not shipped south
Motors, seals and propellers rebuilt on our own bench in Markham, Ontario.

Questions our techs answer every week
Horsepower, voltage and phase all have to line up before an aerator ships. Here is what we get asked most.
-
Start with surface acreage and average depth. As a working rule from our own installs, plan on roughly 1 to 1.5 HP per surface acre for meaningful oxygen transfer.
That puts the 1/2 HP 2400AF on small residential ponds, the 3/4 HP and 1 HP 3400 and 4400 units on a quarter to a full acre, and the 2 HP 8400AF and the 3 HP and 5 HP models on larger commercial water. Send us your acreage and depth and we will confirm before you order.
-
It depends on the model. The three-phase 3.3AF and 5.3AF ship with a Kasco CA-3235 control panel included. Every single-phase model - 2400AF, 3400AF, 3400HAF, 4400AF, 4400HAF, 8400AF, 3.1AF and 5.1AF - ships without a panel.
If you are buying single-phase, budget for a control panel separately. It gives you proper disconnect and overload protection, plus timer and thermostat options.
-
Voltage. Both are 3/4 HP single-phase, but the 3400AF runs on 120V and the 3400HAF runs on 240V. The same applies to the 4400AF and 4400HAF at 1 HP.
The H prefix is the tell. Check the supply at your power source before ordering - it is not a plug swap, it is a different unit.
-
The 2400, 3400 and 4400 series carry a 2-year Kasco warranty. The 8400AF and every 3 HP and 5 HP model carry 3 years.
Because we are an authorized Kasco dealer and run our own repair centre in Markham, warranty work is handled here rather than shipped across the border.

Surface aeration works the top few feet of the water column and covers a wide area per horsepower. Diffused aeration releases air at the bottom and lifts the entire column, which is what deep or stratified water actually needs.
Under about eight feet, a surface unit is usually enough. Deeper than that, look at RobustAire diffused aeration, or run both on larger water.
-
A surface aerator is not a de-icer, but paired with a thermostat control panel it can be used to keep water moving as temperatures drop. Kasco also offers a conversion kit for compatible motor units.
If ice prevention around a dock or boat lift is the actual goal, a purpose-built de-icer is the right tool. Tell us what you are protecting and we will point you at the correct one.
